Liechtenstein Alpine Club (LAV)

The Liechtenstein Alpine Club (LAV) is one of the oldest clubs in the Principality of Liechtenstein and, with over 3000 members, is also the largest club in the country with its seat in the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee.

The LAV promotes mountaineering in the broader sense of the word and for this purpose organises hikes of various degrees of difficulty, classic summer and winter tours on foot, even by bike, with skis and snowshoes, and even operates an ice tower to meet this need, which is expressed in particular by the young members. The varied programme can be viewed on the homepage: www.alpenverein.li.

Naturally, the protection of nature and the landscape is an important concern, since intact nature and as untouched a landscape as possible are the basis for all the aforementioned mountaineering activities. And since these concerns can only be tackled in a cross-border and promising way, the LAV is a member of the Club Arc Alpin (CAA), the European Mountaineering Association (EUMA) and the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA).

Furthermore, the LAV participates in legislation in Liechtenstein that affects the purpose of the association.

The LAV maintains two mountain huts, the Gafadura-hut, 1428 m.a.s.l., and the Pfälzerhütte, 2108 m.a.s.l.. Founded in 1909 as the "Liechtenstein" section of the DAV and the OeAV, the LAV became independent in 1946.

The office is located in Steinegerta in Schaan, a former seat of power which the LAV shares with adult education.

The members get the latest news from the board, reports in words and pictures from the mountain rides as well as other club and mountain relevant topics quarterly from the ENZIAN, the newsletter of the LAV with a volume of more than 80 pages each. In addition, the annual BERGHEIMAT is virtually bibliophile, with a kaleidoscope of contributions from the association and the wealth of experience and mountain experiences of its members.
